Who runs Cathus Photography Blogs?

It’s run by me, Garry, or Gazzer to my mates. I’m a photographer from Hertfordshire. I’ve been blogging in one form or another for over five years & taking photos for many years longer than that. I started my own Photography Blog a few months ago & enjoy it so much I thought I’d try & encourage other photographers to do the same. By way of a shameless plug, you can see my Blog at blog.glnphotography.com; it might even give you some ideas for your own Photography Blog.

How does it work?

It’s very simple really, you sign up for a free blog by providing a username & email address, once you activate your blog you get to run it how you want (within our Terms & Conditions). All I ask is that you use it as a Photography Blog, i.e. it must be about some aspect of photography, whether you use it to showcase your work, or as a diary of your progress, it’s up to you.

What Software do you use?

Wordpress. It’s very popular & always comes highly rated in the magazine reviews. We use a version of Wordpress called Wordpress-Mu which allows us to set up for multiple-blogs so we can share the love of Wordpress & Blogging. And what’s more its themes beat the pants off all those dreary-looking blogs over at Blogger.com!

Why are you doing this, I mean you’re not earning from it, are you?

Er, No. Good question, I’ve asked myself that too. It’s because I am so kind-hearted & thoughtful that I want to put something back into the photography community. After all, I’ve learned more about photography from online sources of information & photography community forums in the last two years than I did in the twenty prior to that. There’s a lot of talented amateurs out there who have helped me. I see it as a way of helping others achieve their goals.

I’m not too good with this here blogging malarky, I don’t know what I’m doing.

No problem, our tutorials should get you up & running. I’ll be adding to them. If there’s something you want me to add, tutorial wise, let me know.

I’m not sure about the Themes you offer, I’ve seen some better ones elsewhere.

No problem. If the Theme is available for public download we can check it out & if it works, we’ll add it so you can use it too.

What gizmos & additions to the software do you have?

That’s a never-ending story; as we find plugins & additions which our users may find useful, we’ll add them. If you’ve something in mind, let me know & I’ll see if it can be added.

I’m not sure about having a web address of www.cathus.com/blogs/myblog. I’ve got or am thinking about getting my own domain name, couldn’t I use that?

Absolutely! There’s no reason why you can’t configure your domain to point to your new blog & your visitors will be none-the-wiser. We can advise you how to do this if required.

What if I don’t keep up with my Blog?

Well I’m not going to lie & say you can start a blog, post for a couple of weeks & expect it to be still online in ten years time. At some stage it will get deleted. If you start & discover that blogging’s not for you, you can delete your blog & the whole thing disappears, forever. You can do this at any stage from your Admin Panel.

Is there anything I should avoid?

Well, basically anything which is either illegal or immoral, so no porn or illegal filesharing stuff.
