If you’ve read any blogs, you’ll have noticed that most of them link to other sites the authors think their readers might be interested in. This works two ways, it sends traffic from your blog elsewhere & if you can get people to link to you it will send traffic from their site to your blog.

You’ll change your Links & Link Categories from your Admin Panel.

  1. Log into your admin panel and select ‘Manage‘ from the links along the top left.
  2. Below the ‘Manage‘ tab, you should see ‘Links‘ & ‘Link Categories‘ among others. The ‘Links‘ is where you add & edit your actual links while the ‘Link Categories‘ sets up the different categories you want for your Link, just like your Article Categories.
  3. Select ‘Link Categories‘ and then go and add the categories of your choosing. You might want to have separate categories, for instance, for ‘Photographers’,  ‘Tutorial Sites’ & ‘Image Galleries’.
  4. Once you have your Categories sorted you can go ahead & add your web links via the ‘Manage/Links‘ section.
  5. Once at your Links section you will notice some generic links which were added automatically. You can go ahead & delete these if you wish.
  6. The first link you add really ought to be a link to my Photography Blog, it’s only fair, after all, I’m giving you this blog, the least you can do is stick a link back to me on there!
Click ‘Add New’ to open up the New Link page, give it a title - Garry’s Photography Blog seems quite apt & then use blog.glnphotography.com as the link not forgetting to add http:// at the beginning! You can give it a description if you like (this will display when you hover the mouse over the link).
Now you can see the categories you set up earlier displayed below. You can assign your link to any of the categories by clicking the box beside the category. In the ‘Advanced Options/Target’ check the ‘_blank’ button - this will open up any links in a new tab but leave your site still visible in the visitor’s browser - you want them to click links but also to come back to your site, right?
Now click ‘Save’ and you’re done. You can go & add as many links as you wish.
  7. You might want to change your default Link Category at this point. This will be the category that a link will be added to if you forget to assign it a category. To do this you need to go to ‘Settings‘ top right of your Admin Panel, then select ‘Writing‘. Select your default Link Category from the drop-down list.

That’s all there is to it really. There are a few more settings in there but you don’t really need to worry about them too much, unless you fancy finding out what they do yourself.
