Unless you are linking to a picture already on a website somewhere, you will need to add it to your Blog’s ‘Media Library‘.
This tutorial is designed to show you how to add photos & graphics to your blog entries & should take you 10 to 15 minutes to get you up & running.
When you write a new post you are presented with the following screen:
This is basically just a mini word-processor with many of the features & buttons (1) you will be familiar with. If you can’t see two rows of buttons then you’ll need to press button (2) to expand the buttons.
The little star next to ‘Add Media‘ (3) is what you press to open up a screen in which you can upload your photos and link (4) switches between the normal entry screen & the HTML code. You will need to use the HTML screen if you wish to utilise the Lightbox feature for photos.
- The first thing we need to do is add your photo to your ‘Media Library‘. Click the star at (3) to open up the screen where you can upload a picture. You should be met with the following screen:

- You can use the top section to browse to your pics on your computer - you can select several at once, or use the bottom section to link to a pic somewhere on the Internet.
When you press the upload button, after a few seconds your photo is uploaded to your blog space. - Once uploaded a further details screen opens up where you can add a title & description if you wish. You can also insert the photo into your post directly. You must remember to select the correct size as Wordpress offers Thumbnail, Medium or Full Size versions of each photo.

- If you want to insert a photo which is already in your media library, just go the the ‘Add media‘ screen and select ‘Media Library‘ from the top tabs. Select the pic you want to add and click ‘Show‘ which will open up a bigger screen where you can insert it into your post.

- Once your pics are added to your post, if you click on them you can change their alignment by pressing the Left, Middle or Right Alignment buttons.
